Shabbat Prayers

Music plays an important role in our worship at Our Synagogue.

The blessings recited over the candles, wine, and bread are sung during Shabbat and other holiday celebrations.

Blessing Over the Candles

Light the Shabbat candles and then recite the following blessing:

Listen

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam Asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'zivanu l'hadlik ner shel Shabbat

Blessed are You, Eternal our God, Sovereign of time and space. You hallow us with Your mitzvot and command us to kindle the lights of Shabbat.

Blessing Over the Wine

Listen

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam, Borei p'ri hagafen

Praise to You, Eternal our God, Sovereign of the Universe, Creator of the fruit of the vine.

Blessing Over the Bread

Listen

Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech haolam, Hamotzi lechem min haaretz.

Our praise to You, Eternal our God, Sovereign of the universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth
